چکیده

ABSTRACT The origin of the Lyman α (Lyα) emission in galaxies is a long-standing issue: despite several processes known to originate this line (e.g. active galactic nucleus, star formation, cold accretion, shock heating), it difficult discriminate among these phenomena based on observations. Recent studies have suggested that comparison ultraviolet (UV) and optical properties sources could solve riddle. For reason, we investigate rest-frame UV Abell 2895b, strongly lensed Lyα emitter at redshift z ∼ 3.7. From study, find our target compact (rn 1.2 pkpc) star-forming (star formation rate ≃11 M⊙ yr−1) galaxy having young stellar population. Interestingly, measure high ratio Hβ continuum monochromatic luminosities (L(Hβ)/L(UV) ≃ 100). Based tracks theoretical models (starburst99 bpass), can only partially explain result by assuming recent (≲10 Myr), bursty episode considering characterized binary stars, top-heavy initial mass function subsolar metallicities (Z ≲ 0.01 Z⊙). These assumptions also observed low (C/O) abundance (≃0.23(C/O)⊙). By comparing data sets, are more extended (×2) than Balmer lines, peak offset (≃0.6 pkpc). multiwavelength results analysis suggest originates from burst, likely taking place an off-centre clump.

Lyα Driven Outflows Around Star Forming Galaxies

We present accurate Monte-Carlo calculations of Lyα radiation pressure in a range of models which represent galaxies during various epochs of our Universe. We show that the radiation force that Lyα photons exert on hydrogen gas in the neutral intergalactic medium (IGM), that surrounds minihalos that host the first stars, may exceed gravity by orders of magnitude and drive supersonic winds. Lyα ...

Boron in the very metal - poor star BD − 13 3442 ?

The Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph (GHRS) of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has been used to observe the boron 2500 Å region of BD −13 3442. At a metallicity of [Fe/H]=−3.00 this is the most metal-poor star ever observed for B. Nearly 26 hours of exposure time resulted in a detection. Spectrum synthesis using the latest Kurucz model atmospheres yields an LTE boron abundance of log (B)= ...

The most metal-poor damped Lyα systems: insights into chemical evolution in the very metal-poor regime

We present a high spectral resolution survey of the most metal-poor damped Lyα absorption systems (DLAs) aimed at probing the nature and nucleosynthesis of the earliest generations of stars. Our survey comprises 22 systems with iron abundance less than 1/100 solar; observations of seven of these are reported here for the first time. Together with recent measures of the abundances of C and O in ...

A very young star forming region detected by the ISOPHOT Serendipity Survey

We present a multi-wavelength study of the star forming region ISOSS J 20298+3559, which was identified by a cross-correlation of cold compact sources from the 170 μm ISOPHOT Serendipity Survey (ISOSS) database coinciding with objects detected by the MSX, 2MASS and IRAS infrared surveys. ISOSS J 20298+3559 is associated with a massive dark cloud complex (M ∼ 760 M⊙) and located in the Cygnus X ...

Abundances of Extremely Metal-Poor Star Candidates

We present chemical abundances for 110 stars identified in objective-prism surveys as candidates to be very metal-poor. The abundances are derived from high S/N, intermediate-resolution spectra obtained with the Keck Observatory Echelle Spectrometer and Imager. An additional 25 stars with well-determined abundances ranging from [Fe/H]= −1.5 and −3.2 were observed and the results used to help ca...
